One reason the Met Gala after-parties are nearly as famous as the Met Gala itself has to do with an incident that took place 10 years ago at the Standard Hotel in the West Village of Manhattan. On that night, Beyoncé was a star of the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, along with her husband, Jay-Z, and her sister Solange Knowles. Afterward, in an elevator car headed to the Boom Boom Room, the club on the top floor of the Standard, Solange attacked her brother-in-law while Beyoncé stood watching and a bodyguard tried to restore order. The security-cam footage leaked to TMZ and the internet, and a family fight became the stuff of New York social lore. Connie Fleming, the hotel’s longtime doorwoman, reflected on the changes in the social atmosphere since the heady days of 2014.

Nick Joseph Viall is used to his dating life being on public display. From 2014 to 2017, he appeared in four seasons of the “Bachelor” franchise: two seasons of “The Bachelorette,” one season of “Bachelor in Paradise” and, finally, “The Bachelor.”That’s all experience that has helped inform his relationship podcast, “The Viall Files,” and his 2022 book, “Don’t Text Your Ex Happy Birthday: And Other Advice on Love, Sex and Dating.”But his relationship with Natalie Joy, whom he began dating in 2019, remained out of the public eye for several years. On April 27, the couple exchanged vows on an animal farm in Savannah, Ga. They met in September 2019, when one of Mr. Viall’s Instagram photos popped up on Ms. Joy’s Explore page. She thought he was attractive, so she decided to send him a cheeky message: “You’re unreal.”

He was a star athlete — the pitcher on the baseball team and a shooting guard and forward on the basketball team. They lived only four blocks from each other and walked home together after school. After graduating from junior high school and switching over to Allentown High School for the 11th grade, they saw each other less and less. Getting Dressed for the ‘Muslim Met Gala’

Washington Square Park is known for its lively atmosphere and eclectic characters. People celebrate Eid by getting dressed to the nines, which is why some jokingly refer to it as the Muslim Met Gala. Many came to Washington Square Park wearing colorful traditional garments like galabeyas, grand boubous, salwar kameez, thobes, kurtas and abayas, some of which were accessorized with opulent jewels or swipes of dark kajal eyeliner. Others chose more casual clothes — like the comic Ramy Youssef, who wore a hoodie and a green baseball cap. On the morning of Eid, there are many large prayer gatherings throughout New York — in mosques, at high school football fields, on blocked-off streets.

Charity Lawson earned a reputation of being a sweetheart after starring in the 20th season of “The Bachelorette,” which ended in August with her engagement to Dotun Olubeko, an integrative medicine specialist. Ms. Lawson, 28, seemingly always has a smile on her face. She knows what she likes and she does not put up with drama, a trait that was witnessed first hand this week amid the chaos that was New York Bridal Fashion Week — a chaos that this season was exacerbated by heavy rain and wind. The three-day event, from April 2 to 4, was an opportunity for bridal designers to show their latest collections to journalists, buyers and, in Ms. Lawson’s case, a bride-to-be who is starting to look for dresses for her 2025 wedding. She hopes to have a dress chosen by July for the wedding she is planning in California next fall, which will be followed by a traditional Nigerian celebration in Lagos, Nigeria, to honor her fiancé’s heritage.

In January, Tessa Tookes tried on her dream wedding dress at a bridal boutique in Ontario. When the store employees told her she would have to pay $200 for the bra cups of the gown to match her skin color, her heart sank. The beige cups that had already been built into the dress, however, were free. Ms. Tookes, who is Black, loved the dress so much that she put down a deposit for half the price of the gown. “When the dust settled a week later, I was like, I probably don’t want to wear this dress anymore,” Ms. Tookes, 28, said.

About four years ago, the D.J.s Malinder Tooray, Omar Ahmed and Bianca Maieli hosted a night of music and dancing in Los Angeles. Their show, “No Nazar,” attracted a wide following and filled in what many saw as a gap in the music and nightlife scene. “Nazar” is an Arabic word borrowed by many languages and cultures. It invokes the concept of “evil eye” — that is, an envious glance that can cause harm to those it falls on. The event created by Ms. Tooray, Mr. Ahmed and Ms. Maieli reflected a mood the trio was trying to create — that of an inviting and affirming environment that encourages cultural exchange through music.

When it comes to wedding outfit shopping, brides seem to get all the attention. There’s New York Bridal Fashion Week, a three-day extravaganza where brands showcase their newest designs. Major cities are replete with bridal boutiques, and buying the bridal gown is often considered one of the first steps in the wedding planning process. “I can’t tell you the number of times we get calls a couple of weeks before the wedding,” said Michael Andrews, who has been dressing grooms since 2006 at Michael Andrews Bespoke, his luxury clothing shop in New York. In October 2023, he opened the Groom Shop, also in New York, dedicated solely to the groom shopping experience.

Law” — watched the first three episodes on Hulu. They shared their observations with the editors Minju Pak and Jim Windolf, who were fans of the show in its heyday. It was the subject of workplace conversation and countless think pieces, and it won 15 Emmys before the final gavel in 1994.

Before Ezekiel Oliver Smith and Michael Nicolas Briones Santos attended the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles in April 2018, Mr. Smith enjoyed his time alone more than his time on dates. When he was alone, he never felt lonely, and he thought that maybe he was happiest when he was single. Mr. Santos, on the other hand, was focused on his career. He told himself that he would never find his true love, and he was OK with that. Mr. Santos, 44, found out that he could indeed “have it all.” And Mr. Smith, 35, found someone he enjoyed spending time with more than he enjoyed spending time alone.

They had flown in from New York, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas and Los Angeles, which is not unusual for the typical big city fashion show. But this was in Middleburg, Va., an hour away from the Washington airport. That’s the kind of ride-or-die community that Anifa Mvuemba, 32, the founder of the clothing brand Hanifa, has cultivated. Guest lists at fashion shows usually include celebrities, influencers and media, but this one largely comprised longtime friends, supporters and family members, including five siblings, who were willing to travel for the show. Dustin Schell was celebrating at a bar after witnessing his friends’ ceremony at City Hall in Manhattan. Dr. Kelvin Chan was running last-minute errands in preparation for his wedding in Toronto the next day. Still, many couples went ahead with their ceremonies. Now, as they approach their 20th anniversaries, my colleague Sadiba Hasan called some of the couples and asked: Did a wedding day crisis set up your marriage for success? It took Rahul Mishra six years to sell his first bridal lehenga, a three-piece skirt, blouse and scarf ensemble from the Indian subcontinent. In April, the 43-year-old fashion designer, who is based in Delhi, India, made headlines for dressing Zendaya in a shimmery blue sari at the opening of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center in Mumbai. (He has also previously dressed Gigi Hadid, Viola Davis and Priyanka Chopra.) In 2020, he became the first Indian designer to show at Paris Haute Couture Week, and he has gone back every year since. Weddings are “red carpet” events for people who aren’t celebrities, he said — especially in Indian culture, where weddings often span multiple days, requiring many outfits for a long list of guests.
